Love in The Time of Corona

If you’re an online dater there’s no doubt you’ve noticed the influx of activity on your dating app. More people are home than ever before. Loneliness fuels this need to connect. Forced isolation will do that. The guy who couldn’t reply to you sooner than three days prior to being quarantined now manages to keep you informed of his daily meal choices. Matches near and ridiculously far are reaching out less to spark romance than to just connect with a human.

More and more profiles are adorned with pics of men donning face masks and wriiten profiles bearing quips like “seeking a quarantine buddy” or “Corona Free”. Lures to make you swipe right include promises of unlimited toilet paper, gallons of hand sanitizer and spare N95 masks. Those puppy pics that used to you swoon are now replaced with the Costco sized Bounty. And in all honesty is currently giving you the same effect.

Social distancing seems to have forced the hand of the flakey ones to actually communicate. One might think this might be a potential turning point in dating history. Real connections happen when you invest the time in speaking to the person and getting to know them. What better way than when you’re quarantined at home? Perhaps those who didn’t take dating seriously will have a newfound respect and acknowledgement for a true partner. Only time will tell. Fingers crossed. Stay Safe Everyone.
